Light & Airy
Pictures are made using only natural light with flat, low-contrast settings to soften and minimize shadows. White, gray, green, and blue are the predominant colors. Most often seen in outdoor wedding photography. These images print well on Matt and metallic papers.

Dark & Moody
Pictures are made using only natural light using low-contrast, rich, warm, deep colors, and shadows. Blacks, browns, oranges, and yellows are the predominant colors. Most often seen in Fall family portraits. These images print well on Matt and metallic papers.
Turquoise and Orange
Most often used in Beach photography, these images are made with proper exposure using full saturation of color. In development, the photographer adjusts the colors so that variations of turquoise and orange are the predominant colors. These images look great on metallic paper, but will also print well on other types of paper.

Authentic / True to life
Used in studio photography as well as outdoor photography. The photographer employs proper exposure, full-color saturation, and sometimes flash or reflectors to add light where needed. Development is limited to removing distractions, reducing noise, applying a framable crop, and making sure the image is level to the horizon.
Many people think this is called “un-edited” imagery or “un-edited” style. This is a misconception.
All professionally shot imagery must be edited in some fashion, even if it is simply to convert from RAW to JPEG. The proper title for this style of development is: Authentic/true to life.

Bokeh Effect
For decades, the signature of professional photographers was their ability to produce the perfect Bokeh effect. This effect is done in the camera during the creation of the photograph. Only high-end (expensive) lenses can produce Bokeh. This is not something that can be accomplished (or reversed) through editing.
Some cell phone makers advertise that their cameras can produce Bokeh. They come very close, but the result often looks fake.
What is Bokeh? Bokeh is the visual quality of the out-of-focus areas of a photographic image. The subject will be in clear focus but the background is so out of focus that it is almost indistinguishable. This effect looks best when string lights are in the background.

Color Pop
A monochromatic image with one element of the image in full, bold color. This was very popular in the late 1990s.
